Campus Ministry is the center of faith life on the Sacred Heart Academy campus and has come back this year with even more Charism than before. There is much instore for the Campus Ministry community, as members of the core committee, along with Mrs. Welch, have put many ideas together to make this year great.
So far, Campus Ministry has organized two first Friday liturgies, one of which was the annual Enthronement Mass, which was led by Archbishop Coyne. The Mass was beautiful, as the preparation that went into every aspect of it was apparent. This year’s enthronement court displayed our exemplary Sacred Heart Academy Students; the Honor Guard, consisting of Mavis Banks, Elizabeth Blair, Kelly Blute, Julia DeFrances, Isabella Louros, Maya Quaranta, Emma Reynolds, and Surita Williams accompanied this year’s Enthroner Natalie Votto, through a lovely procession which depicted the Sacred Heart Academy Charism most brilliantly. The music selection handpicked by Mrs. M, was very well done and fit the tone of the service beautifully. The background instruments, provided by Abigail Chang on the violin, and Olivia Pirolo, on the flute, provided a special touch to the already angelically sung music performed by the Sacred Heart Academy Liturgy Choir. At the end of the service, members of the STUCO board, along with two members of the Junior class presented Archbishop Coyne with SHA SWAG, as well as a painting of Jesus and a young woman. After the service, Archbishop Coyne toured the school, and met many of the SHA students, to which he had nothing but positive feedback.
In terms of the individual branches of Campus Ministry, each has kicked this year off to a great start. Faith Life has had its first few meetings with its leadership board, as well as Java with Jesus and Bible Study. This Thursday, 10/17 Faith Life will be introducing another section called Journeying Together, or Journey. Journey is a discussion-based group in which students are welcome to express their doubts or struggles in faith, and receive advice from either ASCJ Sisters, a Theology teacher, or other SHA students. Journey is a safe space which allows for girls to realize that it is okay to question their beliefs, even though they are Baptized and attend a Catholic school. While Journeying Together helps establish a stronger connection with faith, it also allows for bonds to be formed with other Sacred Heart Students through a deep, community building discussion.
Our other sections, such as Clelia’s Cucina, have also had their first meetings. Clelia’s Cucina met this past Wednesday to assemble bagged lunches for the local soup kitchens. The student participation was wonderful, as many lunches were made, and many attended to show their support. Clelia’s Cucina is a great way to get service hours, as well as form friendships with some of the most amazing people you will ever meet. Respect For Life and Local Outreach have also started the school year off wonderfully. Local Outreach has started a Morning Show segment to bring the scripture into our daily lives as well as connect us more closely with the word of God and teach us how to apply it to our lives. Local Outreach has also started their Stall News line for this school year, which has been off to a great start. Respect For Life has had its first meetings, in which they planned this year’s upcoming events, to which hold great promise.
We can’t wait to see what Campus Ministry continues to accomplish as the school year continues!
