The upperclassmen are so thrilled to welcome the class of 2028 and would like to help make their transition to SHA as smooth and enjoyable as possible! Aside from helping them in the halls and at extra curriculars we’d like to answer some of their burning questions:
Q1 – What is the most effective way to organize your notes?
While everyone works differently, some of the most effective ways to organize your notes is by having separate notebooks for each class, color coded is best. If it is a class with a lot of handouts, binders are often a good choice because you can hole punch worksheets and keep them with all your notes. Organizing notes by chapter or unit is helpful when it comes to studying for tests, quizzes, or midterms. Depending on the class, it may be helpful to separate chapters using different colors for your notes, tab dividers, or stick notes.
Q2 – How do you manage being a student athlete?
The best way to manage being a student athlete is by having good time management. Prioritizing sleep in order to be energized for a full day of school and practice is essential. It is a good idea to start your work as soon as you get home, that way your assignments aren’t piling up until the last minute.
Q3- As a freshman, how did you adapt to the homework load?
Adapting to the homework load takes time, especially depending on how much you had in 8th grade. However, one of the best ways to manage it is by doing it the night it is assigned that way if you have a question, there is still a day in between to ask your teacher or work on it a little longer. Doing homework, the night it is assigned relieves any stress or rush of finishing it the night before.
Q4- What are the best ways to get extra help if you are struggling in a class?
The best way to get extra help if you are struggling in a class is to visit the National Honor Society tutors in room 313 during your study! NHS tutors excel in their classes and want to help you as well. They have all been freshmen before and have taken the same classes, and they know the best study tips to share. Talking to your teachers after school is another good way to get help!
Q5- How many clubs should you join?
You should join any club that is even remotely interesting to you! Clubs are a great way to meet people, especially those that share the same interests as you. It doesn’t hurt to attend a meeting. If you don’t like it, you do not have to go back, but it’s better to try something once than to regret not trying it at all.
We hope these responses can ease some of the nerves or anxiety that the class of 2028 may be feeling. High school is a fun time to make memories with your friends and discover the things you truly enjoy. Studying and juggling extracurriculars are skills that will get better with each year. Best of luck class of 2028 and remember that the upperclassmen are here for you.
