On Friday, October 4th, our school community celebrated the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart. This was a special Mass, as Archbishop Coyne joined in our celebration. The Enthronement is a Christian tradition that honors Jesus Christ by crowning Him as the King of our Hearts. Jesus invites us into a loving relationship with Him. He offers us His loving and compassionate Sacred Heart. Following our Lord’s example, we are called to share this same love with one another. The Enthronement is a time to display this love and devotion to the Lord.
In preparation for the liturgy, seniors were voted by teachers and classmates to be part of the Enthronement Court: Mavis Banks, Maya Quaranta, Kelly Blute, Liz Blair, Isabella Louros, Surita Williams, Julia DeFrances, Emma Reynolds, and Natalie Votto were chosen. Among them, two seniors were chosen to carry the crown and crown the statue of Jesus. Emma Reynolds carried the crown, and Natalie Votto crowned Jesus. As Emma led Natalie to the altar, the other members lined against the aisles of the chapel, holding roses.
Before the enthronement, Natalie led us in a prayer called the Act of Consecration. This prayer calls us to set a special place in our hearts for God. We offer him our sincere selves and dedicate our love for God by spreading his love through others. After this prayer, Archbishop Coyne blessed the statue of Jesus. Then, Natalie placed the crown on Jesus. She represents everyone as we join together to crown Jesus as the King of our Hearts. Afterward, all the court members placed roses into a vase before the statue. These roses symbolize a self-offering. We honor our Lord and Savior and offer our truest selves to Him.
Once the Mass ended, STUCO presented Archbishop Coyne with gifts and gave insight into our loving and serving community. Students also had the opportunity to meet with the Archbishop in the Alumni Conference Room. Later, he took a tour of SHA, accompanied by some students.
The Enthronement truly was a special liturgy. As a community, we renewed our faith and commitment to the Lord. We celebrated and expressed our gratitude, devotion, and love for the King of our Hearts.
