About one year ago, the students at SHA were preparing for the first annual Winter Snow Ball. The girls were dress shopping, picking out their jewelry, and finding the perfect shoes. They danced to their favorite songs and took a million pictures to capture their favorite moments.
In February the indoor track team took home four medals at the SCC Championship, including, Victoria Baker, Maya Quaranta, McKenzie Spooner, and Juliet Forstrom. SHA Cheerleading also had three students, Danielle Patrick, Nashaly Zabala, and Maddie Kuczynski named All SCC team.
The school year was flying by, and spirit week came up quickly, each day with hilarious new costumes made the school week more entertaining for the students. By the end of the week, school spirit had exceeded its usual high expectation as the juniors won dance crew for the second year in a row, and SHA Musical for the following school year was announced as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!
In the blink of an eye the 2024 seniors were committing to colleges, finishing classes, and preparing to walk out as SHA Alumni at graduation. Meanwhile, the junior class participated in their junior ring ceremony as they stepped into their new roles as the leaders of the school. In the spring, the students also celebrated the junior-senior yearbook supper, a long-standing bittersweet SHA tradition bonding the upperclassmen, as the juniors say goodbye to some of their closest friends and role models, and the seniors pass down their final advice for the upcoming senior class.
Around graduation, the members of SHA Musical attended the Halo Award Ceremony at the Palace Theater in Waterbury. They went into the event with 13 Nominations and took home 2 Halo Awards, including the most prestigious award for Best Contemporary Musical.
Over the summer many students traveled, and many students and incoming freshman attended camps at SHA in preparation for their competitive sports teams. The new school year began on August 29, where the underclassmen were all welcomed by the Class of 2025 cheering at the front door, ready to bring the sparkle for their last year at SHA. In October, the students celebrated a beautiful Enthronement Mass put together by Campus Ministry, crowning Jesus as King of their hearts.
Around Christmas time, the Class of 2025 college acceptances began rolling in and many students have already committed. The girls going on to play sports in college had their college signing day in November. The students signing included: Meghan Brown to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for softball, Emma Coggins to Skidmore College for Field Hockey, Emily Mennillo to Franklin Pierce College for basketball, Mia O’Connor to Southern New Hampshire University for soccer, Maya Quaranta to Yale for track and field, Molly Schmitz to Roger Williams University for lacrosse, and Michaela Troy to Salisbury College for softball. Many other seniors are still making difficult decisions about where they want to spend their next few years after SHA. With midterms and the first semester behind them, the rest of the year for seniors is beginning to feel very nostalgic as their first “lasts” are drawing near.
The first last for the Class of 2025 was their last SHA formal, their last Winter Snow ball on January 10 at the Aria. They were dress shopping, picking out their jewelry, and finding the perfect shoes. They danced to their favorite songs and took a million pictures capturing their final favorite moments that they’ll look back on forever, their years to remember.
