Spirit in September
The Sacred Heart girls kicked off another school year with lots of spirit and style during Mini Spirit Week, a great way to show the freshmen a preview of the upcoming activities of the year. The Student Council set up all sorts of activities and dress-up themes during the week of September 14-18th. This fourth week of school was full of excitement, and was a prequel to March 14-18th, the full-on Spirit Week this upcoming spring.
Monday started off with lots of school spirit: class shirts! Even the freshmen already had personal SHA-themed attire. The classes of 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 were decked out in red and white. Other classes’ legacies were still worn that day: I wore my sister’s 2009 Fiddler on the Roof Musical Crew shirt! At break, sophomores took the gold in the bouncy ball races. There’s nothing like a good bouncy ball race to brighten up a Monday morning!
Tuesday brought Twin Day. Girls matched in shirts, socks, accessories, and hairstyles. To be certain, more than three sets of twins in the junior class came to school that day. That morning’s activity was the three-legged race. The sophomores and the juniors both won the races and three-legged-ly continued to second period class in victory.
Wednesday was the most blinding with neon day in full swing. The teachers did not need to put the classroom lights on, as the glowing shirts were enough! The juniors bounced through the ping-pong bucket activity and won the title. On Thursday, however, the freshmen redeemed themselves and won the coveted “Suitcase Race,” becoming champions and possibly intimidating the upperclassmen for the spring spirit games. But all was mellow with psychedelic tie-dye shirts for the rest of the day.
To end Mini Spirit Week, the classes put aside their competitive differences and finished the last morning break of the week with dancing and singing in the cafeteria. Friday was complete with a full dress down of red and white.
The classes all participated and had a lot of fun. This is only the start of the year—soon it will be March and everyone will be preparing for Spirit Week, the most exciting and creative school event. Thank you to Student Council for its work to start the school year right! Mini Spirit Week is a great way to alleviate the stressful rush back into school work and put a lot of smiles on the faces of those who participated and watched from the sidelines of the cafeteria. The Sacred Heart Academy spirit is contagious! By the looks of this year thus far, it seems it is going to be a fun one!
